Football - Ladies A Team

Most Valuable Player - Becs Gaughan

Ladies A this year were a competitive bunch. Spurred on by the best warm ups of any team designed by our own Rania Burns, and heartlifting pre-game speeches from Coach Carmody and Coach McSwiney, the girls faced off against Seoul Gaels in the first match. Coming out of that match winning by a point, the heads were up.
Next up were Beijing and Shanghai A teams… both comfortably beaten with excellent displays of skill from the forward and midfield lines, with the defense spending most of the time chatting and filing their nails.  Some stunning goals from our youngest Lioness and excellent mid-field play from Becs, Janet, Rania and Helen, set up a showdown against Hong Kong in the late afternoon sun. The HK match was tough but fair, with SGL winning once again by a point.  I won't mention my spectacular fall over the ball......
Dubai A, the favourites in the competition were next up for SGL.  The match was tight at times, with some excellent goalkeeping from Tai, and great forward runs from Tessa and Nats.  SGL came out the victors by a point.
Next up we faced, once again Seoul Gaels in the Semi-Final.  Though we battled hard, we were eventually beaten by a goal from their star full-forward, and eventual player of the tournament, Aisha.  A heartbreaking end, but, as they say - there is always next year!
