Football - Men's C Team
Most Valuable Player - Killian Patwell
We started on Sat with Thailand, no better way to start. We thought we had their gameplan but our very own Ultan was not playing where we expected and this might have distracted our forwards who then consistently kicked wide. Or maybe I cannot kick straight. Our superior fitness and conditioning came thorough and we scraped it by a couple of points.
Next we played the Barbarians. Highlight was Kilian going toe to toe with an English Rugby International. I am told it was a ferocious battle but from what I can remember he went down like a ton of bricks. Anyway we again scrapped the game by a point or possibly two
Next HK B. this one came a bit soon half our team were watching A men or their wives in Ladies B or getting a Burger when the game was called so we went in without by stirring rallying the troops pep talk. Funnily enough we played better football than we had all day which says something. Still went down by 5 points, although they were lucky.
Sun started with Korea B at 9 am. The early kick off had limited previous nights visits to the pub for some but still we were a bit shabby. Once on the pitch we were mighty though. It was like an All Ireland in demonstration of free flowing football. We lost by three.
Next despite protesting we were put against Singapore D instead of the by afforded to the Exiles with the Wombats dropping out. A ferocious grudge game ensued with we scrapped by not much.
Finally we were pitched against HK Exiles in the Semi final. Although there were similarities with a player from Beijing A. Still they won the midfield battle and knocked us out by about 7 points. There was much debate about player eligibility but fair is fair they had played that lineup all weekend and beat us fair and square. so we went on to drip tears in our beers and moan about what might have been.
Fred had been colossal in Goal all weekend and kept us in the completion on several occasions. Mark Crosbie, Brendan, Dave Smeed were a wall at the back.
Killian and Laurence were like Duracell bunnies, never tiring ably assisted by Big Dave O'Brien and Lincoln who provided the class. Sharky and Cahir were like honing systems to the goal, although I let them down a bit.
Mr Healy and Mr O'Brien ran the line better than Johnny Cash
