The Opening Ceremony was hosted by the Embassy of Ireland, Singapore. Ireland's Ambassador to Singapore HE Richard O'Brien was delighted to welcome Sheamus Howlin, Chairman of the Overseas Work Group of the GAA to Singapore and was also joined by the Chairman of the Singapore Gaelic Lions, Paul Prendergast and the Chairman of the Asian County Board, Paraic McGrath in welcoming the participants and supporters of the games to Singapore. Former Tánaiste Dick Spring together with the Irish Ambassadors to Japan and Vietnam - Brendan Scannell and Brendan Lyons were also in attendance.
While Mícheál O Muircheartaigh himself was unable to join us we were lucky that his son, Cormac acted as MC for the evening at which the draw for the main competitions was announced.
Saturday and Sunday’s Games at the Polo Club were played through the hottest weekend of the year so far in Singapore. SGL’s 7 teams took the field fitter and better prepared than ever before thanks to the hard work and dedication of Donnacha, Jon, Bryan and Denise.

During the course of the weekend we also ran a Lucky Draw and used sales of the games t-shirts and programmes to raise money for Special Olympics Singapore and the Hope Foundation. In all, over S$6,000 was raised, equally split between the two charities. Thank you to Rachel Cavanagh and Kellie McManus for their efforts.
The presentation of the trophies & medals was held in early evening darkness at the Polo Club – both Hong Kong & Dubai retained their men’s & women’s titles with victories over Singapore & Korea while Dubai won the first Asian Hurling Championship with a win over Singapore. Our own Alan Power was named as Player of the Tournament, with the Ladies Players of the Tournament coming from Shenzhen and Seoul Gaels.
