Habitat for Humanity Build

Batam - November 24th 2007

>>>>

On Sat 24th Nov, 17 of the Gaelic Lions and Lionesses hit Batam ready to build houses. “Team Beautiful” were put to work building a septic tank and "Team Rugged” were tasked with well, digging a really really big hole.

Check out the “Before” picture below. We forgot to take the “After” picture but suffice it to say, the curtains were up and they were just waiting for the lino to gto go down as we left.

During the course of the day some of the Builders had the opportunity to see some finished builds that had been done by Habitat in the same are.  It was really an experience to see the vast difference between 2 places so close together in distance, but worlds apart in all other terms.   Hopefully (despite assurances to the contrary from most people) we can make this an annual excursion from the Club.
Notable mentions….

Alan Power who worked very hard (at moaning) from dawn till dusk. Teresa Ryan who managed to get so dirty that she had to buy new shorts for the journe
y home. Ronan who managed to lose a shoe to the mud. Aileen who managed to look very glamorous all day (50’s housewife style) while wheelbarrowing her
way to a new her. Gary who managed to get great use from the orange headbands from Micheal’s stagg… Neil and Killian for attempting to re-enact scenes f
rom Titanic en route home. Gareth who promised faithfully to send his Project Manager/Cleaning Lady in his stead for the next build.

Our thanks to the ever-wonderful Tracy Clemmer for the hard work and co-ordination of the trip.
