| Adele England | Adele had a surprising start to the season after a broken ankle occurred during a vicious badminton game interrupting her Lions debut. Adele has rebounded with some hearty laughs along the way regarding her unfortunate injury. She puts in top efforts regardless of her recovering ankle and will be back to normal in no time at all, seeing that she stays off the badminton court! |
| Ads Lim | Ads is a Lions Veteran, she has seen every season since 2004 and has a collection of silver ware to prove it. This Aussie thinks training for any sport is totally over rated and has been known to run marathons on a whim. Although this strong forward now finds herself defending she would be just a comfy in midfield as long as there is an eskie of champers on the sideline. Someone make a note to check her water bottle! |
| Aidan Healy | Head Coach Healo with his hats scarves and headbands (and let's not forget the fanny pack!) at training is an inspiration to us all. Took up the tough challenge of following in coach Carmody's footsteps of whipping thirty odd ladies into shape for the games and if this year's teams are anything to go by he ain't done half bad. Brings his own unique style to everything - training is no exception. A multi-talented Kerry man (is that an oxymoron?), congratulations are also in order for the impending fatherhood. We're all looking forward to seeing Baby Healo in matching head-band & bling! |
| Aileen Lane | Unusually part of the non-playing contingent this year we will let Ms. Lane of just this once on account of her impending motherhood. The fashionable yin to Head Coach Healy's penchant for Crocs yang Aileen will bring not only style and grace to the sidelines but hopefully some beers! (for the players of course!!) |
| Anne-Marie Doherty | Unfortunately AM has just gone through a career change, which leave's all the Lioness's in greater danger of getting into a situation where slumming it in Singapore's "Bangkok Hilton" could be slightly closer to reality! We've all been cautioned that we must behave on night's out now that AM can no longer available to bail us out. Dangerously, this advice is showing signs of wearing off already! The dreaded mobile phone has also been handed back and AM is taking full advantage by frequently being spotted in Muddy's or Clarke Quay of a night (or early morning) out. Still makes it up in time for training & to rattle a few goals in mind you! |
| Bláthnaid MacNamara | This Dublin party gal brings a touch of glamour to the squad with her cow skin handbag, high heels and endless supply of party frocks. A late stayer at the bar, but front runner on the "fast lap", she relinguished the social portfolio to become President in 2008. She's a story-telling, vodka-loving defender who works in forward risk management, a hairy gig in the current market... let's hope she has the nerve to stay off the recently abandoned Malboro's. She dazzles us with her grasp of the Gaelic language (perplexing for the non-Paddy's!) and will lead the Club to victory in Penang. |
| Caroline Bowler | New to Gaelic this year Caroline has gotten the socializing aspect of the Club down to a tee. Slow start to the training it has to be said - that's what drinking jugs at balcony bar till 6am will do to a person - but has been putting in the effort recently and it shows on the pitch, even if she needs to clarify before starting whether she had murtabak the night before or not |
| Carolyn Byrne | Carolyn " Britney" Byrne. Strolls on to the pitch in her matching "pop" purple attire, ready to for action… Is a mean forward and pops the balls over the bar with ease, that's when she calls for the ball. With her new football topper boots, has been known to tread on a few hands "oops sorry", taking McNamara out of play. Not scared to get stuck in both off and on the pitch, expecting a very boozy weekend from Miss Byrne in Penang especially with Miss Ahearne up to lead her astray. This one won't be in bed before dawn coach Healy. |
| Catherine O'Leary | Our soft spoken captain is a fearless player who happily plays any position on the pitch and happily raises a glass (or many) of cider whenever the occasion warrants. Ca will be following the protocol set by Janet when she was captain in 2006; Ca and Gary will be tying the knot after the games though they are waiting a couple of months instead of the following weekend! Ca has been seen showing up at SMU early for fitness training this year though it may be due to be a lack of desire to spend extra time at work rather than an eagerness to get the fitness session underway OR perhaps it could be that she has been following up on a rumour that the can man at SMU has been asked to stock Bulmer’s as well as 100 Plus… |
| Claire Dinsmore | Looking glamorous this Singvegas celebrity could walk the red carpet, though running on the pitch is where she belongs. Claire is the fastest runner the gaelic lionesses have ever seen after a big night out; a powerhouse tearing up and down the pitch. Unfortunately her law studies have interrupted her Lion’s playing season and we look forward to a full season next year in hopes that she is far less studious! |
| Claire Keane | The original and founder of the girls Gaelic team. Took a rabble of girls in 2002, on a strip of wayward grass, created a team and contested Phuket, Hong Kong and Shanghai tournaments as goalie. Most famously known for cracking the Japan goalie's skull in training (sorry Blinder!!) , and telling one opposition up in Hong Kong who dared give Clare a jostle before the whistle: "you do that to me one more time and I'll break every bone in your body". Not one to be messed with. Has hung up the boots, hopefully temporarily, taking a break to return home and produce a small Gaelic cub, but is back in Singers on the scene and coming up to Penang to support the club. Participating this year with our Gaelic cubs, along with Teresa Ryan. At least the cubs won't be sneaking beers at half time..... |
| Denise Galvin | "Ah lads.... I don't want to talk about it". This lovely stylish Gaelic Physio and ex forward player has the best job; she has massaged the most amount of mens groins on the team and still manages to keep a straight face down the pub. And whats more, she gets paid for it!!!...Can always count her in for the socials, first to the bar without fail, unless of course she is preggars (what again?) when she has a tendency to hibernate. We look forward to her rejoining the social scene after number 2, not long to go now.... |
| Denise Glennon | Denise Glennon, what can you say? Well, lots really, unfortunately none of it complementary, we know our fitness nights are good for us but Denise, come on, come on, have some sympathy! Has been treaternnig all season to don a pair of boots, but is proving masterful at hightailing it at crucial moments, have them dusted them off for Penang Denise! |
| Gillian Hayes | All sugar-and-spice off the pitch, Gillian takes on a whole new persona come game time. Her tough defending often leaves her fellow Lionesses licking their wounds. A true party girl, she can talk the leg off a chair, chat up the male Lions, scull a Guiness, bar dance till 6am... and still manage to look pretty! Skipped a few trainings due to holidays and hangovers, but will be on form in Penang ... well for the Saturday games at least!! |
| Grace Chen | Another player flying the Aussie flag. Recently married to a Wombat after a hellova hens party, Grace is currently enjoying life as a kept women. This super fit, fun running, "fast lap" demon is unfortunately not touring, no doubt due to one of her many wedding or holidays, but we look forward to her return next year and know she'll be at the pub to greet us when we return from Penang. |
| Greta Hazlett | The first full season for this Lioness has shows she has what it takes for greatness. From spectacular goal keeping skills in Bangkok to haring around the pitch at training thereafter - and lets not forget the penchant for impromptu drinking games at a moments notice - Ms Hazlett could teach us all a thing or too, even how to entertain the locals on public transportation |
| Helen Fridell | Our Boat Race Queen! This chick can down a drink faster than Usain Bolt can run the 100m. Hels joined the Lioness’ 2 years ago, this chatty Aussie has been a great asset to the club, she is Tour Manager this year and is doing a fine job. If she can tour fees out of our man from Cavan the games will be a breeze for her. As well as organizing the tour, working, studying, playing rugby and the list goes on… she finds the time to recruit for the men’s team... Super hero or what! |
| Janet Hedges | What can we say about Janet that hasn't been said before? Inspirational, brilliant, determined, fantastic, where does it end? Living proof that a new baby and a life are compatible, Janet's still manages to pack it all in. Still the best fouler in the game, manages to pull it off every time without the ref getting a sniff of any wrong-doing, it's all in the elbows apparently. Legendary enough to have a stretch named after her, the "Janet Special" will get us all lumbered up in Penang! |
| Jennifer Allen | Commonly at trainings dressed in red to support her home team Liverpool, Jen recently made her team debut with a deadly canon like forward kick and a great no-nonsense attitude on the pitch. Jen is always keen for a few pints out with team members to discuss the latest and greatest regarding The Reds. With her serious goal kicking skills we hope all other teams will walk on! |
| Jon Carmody | Forever to be known as Coach Carmody, he has only gone and sodded off to the US of A mid-season - lack of commitment to the team it has to be said, talk about priorities! What can one say - a superb coach, from the inspirational bawling at training to an unending depth of patience. Many talents beyond coaching, including repeated slagging off of many a Lion and Lioness - JC you will be missed in Penang. You are, as they say, one in a million. We look forward to seeing you at Christmas in your suits with the donuts, although now that you are flying economy you might want to ease up on those donuts? Don't forget the card for Ca! |
| Karin Zwick | Karin comes from somewhere in main land Europe (where's that I hear you say?) where people speak multiple languages and are very smart (clearly). One sentence we certainly expect to hear allot of " Bier bitte schnell" and lots of it. This European is exceptionally tall and towers above the rest of the team. New this season and learning the rules as she goes along. Mastered the hand pass with ease, we just need to teach her how to foul next and she will be one of the team. |
| Katia Stapley | Great start from Kat this year at training but she has been the stealth mid-fielder of late. A super player and a kick to rival the infamous Boomer Liston (that's a famous Kerry footballer for the newbies) here's hoping that Penang will see plenty of that boot. Rumors has it she's pretty dangerous with a cricket bat also...be prepared! |
| Kellie McManus | Kellie Mc has skillfully managed to avoid all football during her 3 years (almost) sojourn in South East Asia, she has the boots, though I think they could be resold back to the original shop. It's all about the attire Kellie! She has also shown great stealth in hiding her masterful whistle-playing ability - why Kellie? Think of all the "sessiuns" we could have had....as opposed to the sessions! |
| Kellie Webster | This Aussie ensures that the team is taking in sufficient protein! The girl when pale when Aidan suggested taking meat of the menu but this butcher is joining us and taking one for the team by abstaining from juicy steaks until after the games. Kel is like Sistic, the girl can get you tickets for anything….. AFL anyone! |
| Kristina Knight | A new comer to the club and to Singvegas. This ‘Soccer Roo’ found out about the club while having a quiet drink at Molly’s (see where drinking in Molly’s will get you!). She stuck with the Gaelic despite training in torrential rain for 2 weeks in a row. One to watch at the games, the girl can cover ground fast, with or without the ball… that is of course, if she can make sense of what Aidan is talking about! |
| Kym Tonkin | Awesome goalie. Despite having arthritis, and not being able to walk this lady is able to throw herself around the goalie saving the most difficult of balls. Well able to control the defense line, and although was a Hong Konger to start with, we have managed to bag up. Thank god.... she is too good to pass up. Lets hope she proves as useful in the Dragon Boat team against Hong Kong once we are up in Penang. Seen necking beers down Muddies in preparation already.... |
| Larissa Matechuk | Our latest transfer from the 'foreign sport', this Canadian is able to run up and down the pitch all day long - she even catches the ball sometimes. Good attendance at social so far too - high hopes for this Lioness to participate in all aspects of the AGG, including boat races. |
| Lucy Meehan | One of our natural Gaelic footballers. Lucy is as comfortable with the ball as she is with a beer. Always great to have on your side she can read a game like reading a book. She may be quiet off the field, but has been know to let out a roar or two on the pitch when the need arises!! Good to have her wearing the Lions colours again this year. |
| Manusha Thorpe | Another new-comer to the art of Gaelic Football, although to look at her on the pitch one would never guess!! As tenacious a player as is out there, you'll be hard pushed to get the ball back from Jush! Also has no problem falling into the "social" side of the club, and wasn't scared off by the Gaelic Lioness's exploits in Hanoi! |
| Martina Crosbie | Marti "the pins" Crosbie has bounced back from the delivery of No. 2 and is in fine form. Last year's MPV for the B's, she gives the refs plenty of hurry up, while her long legs hurry her down the pitch. This photo buff is a hostess supreme, she can whip up delicate chocolate truffles with her eyes shut and will use similar precision on the pitch with her super solo and pin point kicking. |
| Mary Beecher | This Irish mathematician has enjoyed a sporadic training season, no doubt due to the excessive holidays afforded to those in her profession. However, she's tough and speedy and has come into form for the business end of the season. An ex-Dubai Celts, we'll be sure to drag some intel from her with the help of a few drinks. Rumour has it her boyfriend would prefer Mary play a gentler sport...but she's well up for it and will be a strong force at the Games. |
| Maybelle Tan | Definitely the most ffashionable gaeliclioness in Singapore, closely followed, on the high heels, by Clare and Gillian, "Vogue" material for sure. Still waiting to see some fashion tips translate on to Mr Maybelle, there's still time. Dr Tan is not only as flexible as a piece of sting, (no one else does the downward dog quite like our Maybelle), but is also the smartest cookie on the team. J Lo insures her bum, Dr Tan insures her surgical fingers. Whilst this shopaholic may have hung up her football boots, its on with the Jimmy Choo in Pennang to strut her stuff on the dance floor. Still the best Gaelic weather girl yet..... |
| Maylene Leonard | Maylene teaches full-time, is single-handily raising 4 children (the youngest are twins), plays touch and Gaelic and has a fantastic collection of fancy dress outfits – for herself not her children! And to top it all of she is always smiling and laughing even as she takes out her opponents. Unfortunately she has been sidelined with a knee injury and won’t be traveling to Penang. You will be missed! |
| Megan Graff | Meg "Maple leaf" Graff has decided to run marathons this year (as you do) in as many different countries as possible. Training has thus been restricted to half a season, due to her running schedule, interspersed of course with book club, a job change, on-line courses, socializing with Bucks, and cultural events at the Esplanade. An ardent defender, her tardy mark windmill tackle will sure to be seen at some point during the weekend away. |
| Melanie Rowton | Mel is a middle school teacher and like her pupils, is always eager to learn!!. Fit as a fiddle, runs up and down the pitch with ease. Not a new comer to Gaelic, started 6 years ago the year of Phuket but decided to have a break for the following 5 years, moved overseas and back and sproged a wee small player as well. Great to have her back, those basketball hands catch a mean ball every time. Typical Aussie, great at every sport she plays..... |
| Melinda Smith | Mel is a true blue Aussie but with a love of Guiness. She entertains at training with muddy swan dives, apt curses and inspired us all with her famous "just f##king catch it!" call. This marketeer has tried her hand at serveral sports - softball with great success, contact rugby with less, but has returned to Gaelic even stronger this season. She'll show her Irish beau how his national game is played in Penang and will feature strongly in the boat race afterward. |
| Mireille Couture | Mickey, a player with many aliases, tends to show up once a year for the games and play better than some of us who have trained all season. It is said that she doesn’t come to Gaelic because she plays touch but there are rumours that boarding house duty is cutting into her making it out to touch. No worries, she’ll play fine both on and off the pitch and she’s always up to lead a sing-a-long – Bryan Adams anyone? |
| Natalie Prince | Our former 2007 Captain, Nats is now captain to her beautiful girls Zara and Grace, though that has not deterred her from the game. She is a key team player who one will always find open on the pitch awaiting a pass due to her natural ability to read the plays of the game. A friendly player with a cheerful smile, though I wouldn’t come between her and the ball! |
| Orla O'Connor | Orla, new to Asian Gaelic Games, but missing her inaugural games at Penang, does actually know what's she missing. Muttering about murdering her friend in Cork whose wedding she must attend can be heard under her breath down at SMU for anyone standing close enough. Don't worry Orla - there's always next year! |
| Rachel Cavanagh | The elusive Rachel has not had the best attendance at training this year it has to be said - has she made one session? Having said that, the Lioness is a true supporter of her team-mates - particularly when it comes to getting the next round in at 3am. Unfortunately not travelling to Penang this year, however, we hold out hope for a return to the squad next season.... |
| Rachel Cox | A player that oozes class and is the soul of Gaelic social events is the one and only Rachel Cox. Coxy is an utmost supporter of all team members and a great night out. Unfortunately her schedule sometimes disagrees with her football as she just might have to wash her hair on a training night. She will be terribly missed as she flies off to Oz to become Sydney’s best social planner of all time. We can only hope she will frequent back to Singapore for a few more exile games and social nights out! |
| Rachel Duggan | Rachelle is a sweetheart and has a great big smile but do watch out for her on the pitch. She was MVP of the Exiles team last year and her husband Sean tells us that in Rachelle’s case MVP stands for most violent player. |
| Rania Burns | Superstar Burnsy may have climbed the dizzy heights of the Godfathers corporate ladder (and they are very dizzy depending on how many vineyards you can fit in on one day) but she has not forgotten her SGL roots and we are expecting a top performance as ever in Penang. Opposition beware, be nice or we will get Rania to send the 'boys', around. |
| Rebecca Lewis | In order to throw off the hordes of fans after being named MVP for the Ladies’ A Team last year in Singapore; Becs changed her last name and moved to France. However she has been located and enticed to return to play in Penang. Watch for the player running a top speed wearing a beret with a baguette tucked under her arm and that’ll be Becs. Bonne chance to any opponents who try to get the ball off her! |
| Sharon King | Don't be fooled by Sharon's super bubbly, very kind, butter wouldn't melt in my mouth demeanor - this resolve is out the window when she is hunting you down in defense. The opposition are lucky it is a non contact sport because this woman can pull a mean punch - just ask her husband (but rumour has it he definitely deserved it). Team mates can be thankful that the games are during daylight hours though because once the clock strikes midnight this Sharondarella will surely have lost one of her boots and be shut down, fast asleep in the spot she was standing. Putting her body in the line of duty hasn't bothered brave Sharon, she knows a dislocated finger is all all the rage for Gaelic Starlets! |
| Siobhan Carmody | Siobhan, the former first lady of Singapore has moved onto pastures new and taken up her new role as the first lady of New Jersey. Rumour has it she's been kerb-crawling in an attempt to find a new Gaelic team to whip into shape. Siobhan will be giving the soccer-Moms and the hockey-Mom's a run for the their money - Gaelic Mom coming at ya! Always one to rock on once the boys are safely tucked up in bed. Clarke Quay has gotten a bit quieter since her departure and no-one seems to be shouting for Arsenal any more. Missing you Siobhan. |
| Taissa Matla | Tai, the Gaelic Lions solid last line of defense for another year running will still manage to scare the life out of any new forward in the game. Known for her breath-taking screams at her defense as well as her breath-taking saves Tai makes sure the Gaelic Lions defense is a rock-solid line! Thank you Tai! |
| Teresa Ahearne | One of the holy trinity of periodical Lionesses to return (the other two being Luc Meehan and Ads Lim) - attendance at the AGG is a regular holiday for this lioness. Rumoured to be 'not playing', this year. Is fooling no one and will no doubt be on the pitch at some point - and not just to ferry jugs of beer to teammates. Don't forget to pack those boots T! |
| Teresa Ryan | Most people avoid groups of young children, not our Teresa. Mrs Ryan single handedly created, runs and manages our Gaelic cubs team. Glutton for punishment I hear you say; yes indeed - how she gets up every Sunday morning after a "few" drinks the night before is a mystery. Its the shades...hides a multitude of sins. Started fitness this year but once Terminator Denise started the sprints, a "recurring" back injury surfaced and has remained for the rest of the season. A great player with natural ability, has unfortunately hung up the boots, which is a great shame following her Shanghai success as ladies captain. Bring up your boots T, we need you up in Penang. |
| Terri Harwood | A gal who needs no introductions; Terri is a wild woman both on and off the pitch. Terri has no problem telling you what is on her mind at training- do you dare to ask? Her game has greatly improved as she has begun playing as a strong forward showing determination on the pitch (as well as her game and well articulated forward tactics off the pitch). We definitely couldn’t go without her skills in igniting lively pitch-side conversations. |
| Tessa McGovern | Mad as a march hare. This lady is an amazing player….. A soccer player at heart, traversed to Gaelic by chance after seeing the girls out one night necking shoots and thinking I want to be in that crowd. An American by birth, Irish by nature, primarily school teacher by day and reformed alcoholic by night (well not quite). Ability to drink all of the lads under the table, and will no doubt be having a few beverages this year. No 1 player on the dragon boat team this year. Managed to drag down her best friend to training this year making two mad Americans on board, a formidable duo both off and on the pitch. Lets hope the bar does not run dry. It's been a tough year for Tess...we're all behind you Tess. |
| Tracy Clemmer | This Ghost player is our very capable Club Secretary, and she is without a doubt one of the most organized people we know. This lady also has a heart of gold and has organized club members to participate in the building of homes for the charity, Habitat for Humanity in Batam, no mean feat as most of our members couldn’t tell the difference between a wheelbarrow and a shovel. Will we see this super fit girl take the field in Penang? Hopefully!! |
