AP Lions @ Singapore Marathon

December 7th, 2008

***

In rememberance and honour of Alan, just fewer than 90 members of the AP Lions squad took to the Singapore streets to run some distance at the 2008 Singapore Marathon.  The team was raising money for the Singapore Heart Foundation.  In all, the team covered over 1,600 kilometers, with 12 doing the full marathon.  It was truly an amazing turnout.
*
As ever, the team were well dressed in their no so subtle Orange "Come on Ya Langers!" running tops.  Alan would have been immensely proud of this achievement, not least with the mammoth "on on" brunch at the Paulaner later on which went on until the wee hours.
*
Our thanks to all the participants and sponsors and to Gareth, Greta and Kellie for all the organising.
Please continue to support the SHF!  You can still donate online for the team.  Go to www.myheart.org.sg and click on Donate Now!
Total monies raised stands at $31,100!

On behalf of the Singapore Gaelic Lions, the Wombats, the Hash House Harriers and all who donated, Gareth O'Brien attended Bedok West Primary School last Friday to see the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) put our S$31,100 to good use.

Essentially the funds raised bought nearly 650 of the CPR kits you see in the photos below. The SHF travels to schools (mainly primary schools) and teaches CPR skills to kids using the kits. The plan is that the kids then take the kits home and show off their new skills to friends / other family members etc.

All in, a great cause, and a great achievement -- thanks to all who raised funds / donated.

Here are the kids in action!
