Bill Nikolopoulos Cup Celebrations
80's Night First Aid Fundraiser
To celebrate regaining the Bill Nikolopolous Cub from the Singapore Wombats, the Gaelic Lions hosted an 80's night at BQ Bar on June 13th. On the night we held a Slave Auction and Raffle to raise funds for the Gaelic Lions new Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid Training for 15 members of the club. The night was rip roaring success - and over $4,400 was raised. Our huge thanks to all who so generously donated to this cause, to all the slaves and to the Social butterfly's who made it all happen. Janey Mack.
Lowdown on the night from our own Social butterfly Caroline Bowler....
We're a shocking crowd for the time keeping. 8pm Start? More like 10. State of ye. The 80's were the decade that taste forgot but some of you didn't have to reach too far into the wardrobe in fairness.
Awards go to: Joe Lyons for the most blatent ego massage, the Smiths for best hair (male and female categories), Anne-Marie Doherty for turning 14, the Top Gun twins for the Flight suits and Tom the lonesome cowboy - just cos.
The generosity of people never fails to amaze. The Wombat's deserve special mention and a big thank you for their contributions and efforts on the night. Not only did we get some v. attrative slaves (lucky Claire) but they dug deep and we truly appreciate it. It wouldn't be a GAA night without presentations and speeches. John Mannion was singled out as MVP for the Lions. He later claimed another scalp by taking Ben Lucking in the "for pride" challenge. On the Lionesses side, Aoife and Cassie were best newcommers (well done wimmin) and a shocked Mel Smith was MVP. Is there anything that woman can't do?
Then we got to the juicy bits. The Drama! The excitement! The Out-Bidding!
We don't have space to relive every moment of the thrilling evening - frankly its your own fault for not showing up. However, I'll give you a taster.
On my right, the power combination of Neil Steffensen and Kellie Webster. On my left, the female collective of Blá, Ca, Tessa, Greta & Rachel. Behind me, vulnerably mounted on high stools, were the supine forms of G.I. Joe Lyons (offering yoga and soloing lessons) and Gary "Hardcore Hard Hat" O'Callaghan. Bidding bounced back and forth in a Blur.
Higher and Higher it climbed for the chance to see Joes' Downward Dog and for Gary to hang something hard. It looked like the Aussie Duo were going to take it but no-one counted on the Lonesome Cowboy. His last minute, dramatic intervention to pump up the fortunes of the female collective changed the direction for our Gruesome Twosome.
Who is that mysterious man with his luxuriant moustache? With a tug of his stetson, he disappeared into the night, no doubt to the aide of more ladies in distress.
And what more can one man and his fanny pack do? Ten minuites Aidan Healy sat in that ice bath. TEN MINUTES. You horrible people but thanks so much to Mr. Healy for the cryogenics. We had more of the same for the rest of our o so willing and in no way cajoled slaves. Thanks so much to Shane Tan, his missus Poi, Steve Kennedy, Darragh Lenihan, Gary O'Callaghan, Joe Lyons and Aidan Healy.
