So who are the Gaelic Lions anyway?

1997 was the year Ireland elected her second President Mary, Bertie became the 10th Taoiseach & Monica was still a twinkle in Bill’s eye. Dolly got duplicated, Harry Potter was published, Titanic took over everything but of greatest significance, the Singapore Gaelic Lions roared into life.

The Club has a happy history of involvement. Frequently attending regional games, hosting tournaments locally, active membership on the Asian County Board – the current South East Asian Champions have always made an impact. Competitively, this peaks with our participation in the annual Asian Gaelic Games to be held this year in Hong Kong. The Ladies A & B teams will be looking to retain their titles while the Men are training extremely hard to be in the hunt for silverware. With a strong record of All-Stars & MVPs at these Games, the club has a proud tradition for sportsmanship.

Greater than the sum of its parts, the club comes into its own on the Social side. While an active playing membership brings its own rewards, the club welcomes non-playing member involvement as well. Activities are varied to include the ubiquitous Table Quiz, Charity Slave Auctions, the hugely popular Amazing Race, inter-club matches and tournaments such as the AP Games and the Bill Niko Cup.  All of this plus any number of ad hoc get-togethers, going away drinks, sing songs and crazy nights out.

Membership spans a broad spectrum of age profiles, nationalities and backgrounds. This cultural mix is typical of the Expat Profile in the region (although not confined solely to ‘Blow-Ins’!) with each member bringing a love of Sports and Socialising. The feeling of friendship and community – in all its guises – has helped weather the storms & brought out the best in this Asian Experience.
