Gulf Games, Dubai, UAE

February 12th & 13th, 2010

The Gaelic Lions teamed up with Zimbabwe for our second tour to the Gulf thanks to our old friend and song master PC! And in true form a song and dance was invented in honour of the event which stunned and amazed all who bore witness!

Between the singing, dancing and human pyramiding we even managed to field a men’s and ladies team AND play some football. The men even made the PLATE final and had it not been for some poor refereeing would have come away with the silverware – well that’s our story and we are sticking to it!!!

The ladies had a good day 1, doing well in their group matches with 2 wins and a loss. This placed them in the cup competition where they unfortunately went down in the semi to a very strong Dubai A, who were the eventual runners up. Not a bad effort all things considered.

The standard was immense and the feeling is that it wouldn’t do us any harm to go over there each year and take a beating to get us into shape for the Asian games. It would be ideal to take a full strength squad as this is an opportunity to play teams from Ireland both a great experience, and chance to see the game played as it should be.

Again we were the loudest and drunkest team, although rumour has it the Irish girls were a good laugh and…hmmm….not much else to report except that Kymbo fell asleep under a table. FAIR PLAY!
